Instagram audiogram maker, correctly sized
Instagram treats square and vertical video differently, and posting the wrong shape gets your waveform cropped or letterboxed. The short version: 1080x1080 for a feed post, 1080x1920 for Reels and Stories. Pick the matching ratio in the panel below and export.
Feed posts: square, 1080x1080
Square is the safest format for the main feed. It occupies more vertical space than a landscape video as someone scrolls, without the aggressive cropping that catches people out with portrait uploads. Select the 1:1 ratio and keep the clip to about 30 seconds.
Reels and Stories: vertical, 1080x1920
Reels and Stories are full-screen vertical at a 9:16 ratio. Anything square gets pillarboxed with empty space above and below, which reads as a repurposed post rather than something made for the format. Switch the ratio to 9:16 before exporting. Aim for 15 to 20 seconds on a Reel and around 15 on a Story.
What this tool exports
Exports default to 1080p, which is exactly what Instagram asks for: 1080x1080 for a square feed post and 1080x1920 for Reels and Stories. A 720p option is there too, and honestly it is hard to tell apart once Instagram has re-encoded the upload — but since 1080p costs no extra memory and only a few percent more time, there is little reason to use it.
